Production Area
The production area of Capriano del Colle PDO is within the hilly areas of the municipalities of Capriano del Colle and Poncarale in the Province of Brescia, in the Lombardy region.
Description of product typologies
Capriano del Colle PDO Bianco is straw-yellow with greenish reflections; the nose displays delicate and mineral fragrances; it is dry and aromatic on the palate. It can also be semi-sparkling wine and may display Superiore on the label if the wine has undergone a mandatory ageing period of at least 12 months, including in wooden barrels, commencing October 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced. Capriano del Colle PDO Rosso is ruby red, varying in intensity; the fruity fragrances are accompanied by traces of coffee and leather; it is structured and persistent on the palate, with fruity notes. It can display Riserva on the label if the wine has undergone a mandatory ageing period of at least twenty-four months, including in wooden barrels, commencing November 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced. Capriano del Colle PDO Novello is red with purple reflections; it is fruity on the nose with sharp hints of small berries; it is fresh, rounded and balanced on the palate.
Grape variety specifications
The Capriano del Colle PDO may display the following grape variety specifications. From white grape varieties (incl. Semi-Sparkling): min. 85% Trebbiano di Soave or Trebbiano di Lugana and/or Trebbiano Toscano, pure or with the addition of similarly-coloured unaromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area, max. 15%. From red grape varieties: 100% Marzemino. The characteristics of the colour, fragrances and flavour of each specification are those typical of the grape variety and terroir of origin.
