The production area of Buttafuoco dell’Oltrepò Pavese PDO or Buttafuoco PDO is within the territory of the Oltrepò Pavese hills, in the municipalities of Stradella, Broni, Canneto Pavese, Montescano, Castana, Cigognola and Pietra de’ Giorgi, in the Province of Pavia, in the Lombardy region.
Description of product typologies
Buttafuoco dell’Oltrepò Pavese PDO or Buttafuoco PDO is vivid ruby-red; the nose displays evident fragrances of red fruit, which are more complex due to the spicy sensations; it is fresh and structured on the palate, with good persistence. It can also be a semi-sparkling wine. It can only be released for consumption from April 30th of the year following that in which the grapes were produced. The vinification of Buttafuoco dell’Oltrepò Pavese PDO or Buttafuoco PDO must be carried out within the production area, although taking traditional production situations into consideration, these operations may take place within the entire territory of the Province of Pavia, as well as in the districts of Vicobarone and Casa Bella in the Municipality of Ziano Piacentino, in the Province of Piacenza.
