The production area of Brachetto d’Acqui PDO or Acqui PDO is within the territory of 26 municipalities in Alto Monferrato, in the provinces of Asti and Alessandria, in the Piedmont region.
Description of product typologies
Brachetto d’Acqui PDO or Acqui PDO is crimson or ruby-red with purple reflections; the nose displays fragrances of ripe fruit and rose; it is delicate and characteristic on the palate, ranging from dry to sweet. Brachetto d’Acqui PDO or Acqui PDO Spumante is medium ruby-red, tending towards pale garnet or pink, with fine, persistent and sparkling foam; the nose displays an extremely delicate characteristic fragrance, at times fruity and tending towards spicy in the less sweet wines; it is delicate and characteristic on the palate, ranging from extra brut to sweet. The bubbles must be obtained with a natural fermentation method in autoclaves. Brachetto d’Acqui PDO or Acqui PDO Passito is medium ruby-red, sometimes tending towards garnet; it offers a musty and very delicate aroma on the nose, characteristic of the Brachetto grape variety, with faint hints of wood; it is sweet, harmonious and velvety on the palate, with possible hints of wood. Classico may be displayed on the label. Brachetto d’Acqui PDO or Acqui PDO Passito wine can be obtained from grapes dried on the vines and/or in suitable environments with optimum conditions for conservation and drying. It cannot be released for consumption before October 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced.
