The production area of Biferno PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Campobasso, in the Molise region.
Description of product typologies
Biferno PDO Bianco is bright straw-yellow in colour; the nose displays an intense and aromatic bouquet, with floral and tropical fruit notes and a finish with hints of lime; it is sapid and harmonious on the palate, with good body and acidity. Biferno PDO Rosso is ruby-red in colour, with light garnet reflections; the nose is ample and intense, with notes of ripe fruit, marasca cherry and prune, and hints of vanilla, sweet spice and liquorice; it is smooth, warm and rounded on the palate, with smooth tannins. Riserva and Superiore may be displayed on the label. Biferno PDO Rosso Riserva must have undergone an ageing period of at least 3 years, commencing November 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced.Biferno PDO Rosé is bright deep pink in colour; the nose suggests fragrances of summer fruit, predominantly black cherry and raspberry; the palate is structured and full with a smooth acidity, which is reinforced by a fresh persistence.
