The Bergamasca PGI is reserved for the following types of wine: White, Red, Rosé and Novello. The Indication also incorporates numerous grape variety specifications.

The production area of Bergamasca PGI is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the Province of Bergamo, in the Lombardy region.
Description of product typologies
Bergamasca PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is straw-yellow; it is floral and fruity on the nose, with hints of white fruit; it is dry, fresh and smooth on the palate, with a slightly fruity flavour. Bergamasca PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is vivid ruby-red, corresponding to the grape variety; the nose is full, with characteristic fragrances of red fruit; it is dry and sapid on the palate and has good body. Bergamasca PGI Rosato, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pink to cherry red; it displays delicate fruity fragrances on the nose; it is dry, harmonious and fresh on the palate. Bergamasca PGI Novello, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby-red; the fragrance is intense on the nose and rich with fruity notes; it is dry and harmonious on the palate.
Grape variety specifications
The Bergamasca PGI with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Lombardy region, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety (excluding Novello wines). A maximum of 15% of grapes originating from other similarly-coloured unaromatic grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. Bergamasca PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
