Description of product typologies
Benevento PGI or Beneventano PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, varies from pale straw-yellow to amber-yellow; it is floral and fruity on the nose, with notes of white fruit; it ranges from dry to sweet on the palate, and is fresh and smooth with a slightly fruity flavour. It can also be a semi-sparkling wine. Benevento PGI or Beneventano PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, varies from pale ruby-red to garnet red, depending on the grape variety; the nose is full, dry or slightly sweet, with characteristic fragrances of red fruit; it is dry and sapid on the palate, with good body. It can also be a semi-sparkling wine. Benevento PGI or Beneventano PGI Rosato, alone or with specification of grape variety, varies from pale to deep pink, depending on the type of vinification and grape variety; it presents delicate fruity fragrances on the nose; it is dry, harmonious and fresh on the palate. It can also be a semi-sparkling wine. Benevento PGI or Beneventano PGI Passito Bianco is golden yellow or amber; floral fragrances and fruity notes alternate on the nose; it is semi-sweet or sweet on the palate, extremely well-balanced and with good body. Benevento PGI or Beneventano PGI Passito Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is deep red to garnet red, varying in intensity; the nose offers floral and fruity sensations; it is semi-sweet or sweet on the palate, extremely well-balanced and with good body. Benevento PGI or Beneventano PGI Novello, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby-red; the fragrance is floral and fruity; it is dry or semi-sweet on the palate and balanced.
Grape variety specifications
The Benevento or Beneventano PGI with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Benevento region, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the concerned area can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned musts and wines. Benevento PGI or Beneventano PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
