Description of product typologies
Basilicata PGI Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, varies from pale straw-yellow to amber-yellow; it is floral and fruity on the nose, reminiscent of white fruit; it is dry, fresh and smooth on the palate, with a slightly fruity flavour. Basilicata PGI Bianco Frizzante, alone or with specification of grape variety, is pale-straw-yellow with a fine, evanescent perlage; it is intense and fruity on the nose; it is delicate and sapid on the palate, ranging from dry to semi-sweet. Basilicata PGI Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, varies from pale ruby-red to garnet red, depending on the grape variety; the nose is full, with fragrances of red fruit; it is dry and sapid on the palate, with good body. Basilicata PGI Novello Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby-red with purplish reflections; the nose is characteristic and fruity; it is delicate and dry on the palate. Basilicata PGI Rosso Frizzante, alone or with specification of grape variety, is ruby-red with a fine, evanescent perlage; the nose is fine and elegant; it is delicate on the palate, ranging from dry to semi-sweet. Basilicata PGI Rosato, alone or with specification of grape variety, varies from pale to deep pink, depending on the type of vinification and grape variety; it bursts with delicate fruity fragrances on the nose; it is dry, harmonious and fresh on the palate. Basilicata PGI Rosato Frizzante, alone or with specification of grape variety, ranges from pale to intense pink; the nose is fine and elegant; it ranges from dry to semi-sweet on the palate, with a delicate finish. Basilicata PGI Passito Bianco, alone or with specification of grape variety, is yellow, tending to display amber hues with ageing; the nose reveals intense fruity notes; it is dry, sapid and characteristic on the palate. Basilicata PGI Passito Rosso, alone or with specification of grape variety, is deep red to garnet red; the fragrance is intense; it is harmonious, sweet and velvety on the palate.
Grape variety specifications
The Basilicata PGI with the specification of one of the grape varieties suitable for cultivation in the Basilicata region, with the exclusion of Aglianico and Montepulciano grapes, is reserved for wines that are obtained from grapes originating from vineyards on the producer’s land made up of at least 85% of the corresponding grape variety. A maximum of 15% of similarly-coloured unaromatic grapes originating from other grape varieties suitable for cultivation or found in the Basilicata region can be used, pure or combined, to produce the above-mentioned wines. Basilicata PGI wines with specification of grape variety can also be produced as Novello wine, on the condition that the red grape variety is specified. Basilicata PGI wines with specification of grape variety must display the organoleptic properties of the specified grape variety, as well as the specific characteristics indicated for wines of the same colour.
