Production Area
The production area of Barbera del Monferrato PDO is within the territory of numerous municipalities in the provinces of Asti and Alessandria, in the Piedmont region.
Description of product typologies
Barbera del Monferrato PDO is vivid ruby-red in colour; it displays predominant fruity notes of fruits of the forest, blackberry and blueberry on the nose, releasing strong fragrances of tobacco and coffee and finishing with a slight nutmeg spiciness; the flavour is dominated by black berries, offering the palate a fresh, sapid and slightly tannic wine. It can also be a Semi-Sparkling wine. The vinification and ageing of Barbera del Monferrato PDO must take place in the production area, although, taking traditional situations into account, these operations may also be carried out within the entire territory of the Piedmont region.
Additional specifications
The Barbera del Monferrato PDO designation can be followed by the specification Vigna (Vineyard) with the relative toponym or traditional name.
