Production Area
The production area of Amarone della Valpolicella PDO is within parts of or the entire territory of 19 municipalities in the Province of Verona, in the Veneto region.
Description of product typologies
Amarone della Valpolicella PDO is distinguished by its impenetrable red to garnet red colour; it displays liqueur sour cherry, spicy and vanilla notes on the nose, leading to more intense sensations of leather and cocoa; it is ample, mellow, smooth and tannic on the palate. Amarone della Valpolicella PDO may display Riserva on the label if the wine undergoes a minimum ageing period of at least 4 years, commencing November 1st of the year in which the grapes were produced. The drying and vinification of the grapes and the ageing and bottling of the wine must take place within the production area, in a suitable environment, without any kind of dehumidifying system operating with the aid of heat; the grapes which are dried to obtain Amarone della Valpolicella PDO cannot be vinified before December 1st, and the wine must undergo an ageing period of at least 2 years before being released for consumption, commencing from January 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced.
