The production area of Aleatico di Puglia PDO is within the entire territory of the provinces of Foggia, Bari, Lecce, Taranto and Brindisi, in the Apulia region.
Description of product typologies
Aleatico di Puglia PDO Rosso Dolce Naturale is garnet-red, varying in intensity, with purple reflections, tending towards orange with ageing; it displays fruity hints of prune and cherry on the nose, which become more intense and riper with ageing; it is medium-sweet, full, velvety, slightly tannic and sapid on the palate. Aleatico di Puglia PDO Rosso Liquoroso Dolce Naturale is garnet-red with purple reflections, tending towards orange with ageing; it displays a delicate and ethereal fragrance on the nose, becoming more intense with ageing; it is sweet, full and warm on the palate. Aleatico di Puglia PDO can display Riserva on the label if it has undergone a minimum ageing period of 3 years, commencing January 10th of the year following that in which the grapes were produced, or, for the Liqueur typology, from the date of alcoholization. It can be aged for more than 10 years, especially the Riserva. The grapes can be partly dried on the vines or on straw matting. Aleatico di Puglia PDO cannot be released for consumption before March 1st of the year following that in which the grapes were produced.
